to touch is to feel oneself being touched

for Distractfold Ensemble + motion tracking and sounding headbands

Sounding headbands with dangling objects offer themselves as a visceral visual aid that accentuate the ways in which the performers' movements make sound. But these aren't physical movements typically required for playing their instruments; sonified gestures of the head are alien, unwieldy and awkward (deserving of a stark compositional arrangement). We beg to be rescued by a feeble chorale, which offers only disappointing respite. Trapped in a world of alluring defeat, our visual aids become corporeally and musically rich hindrances.
