You, Penumbra, Me
for Wild Up! — National Composers Intensive | LA Phil
After my son Solaris was born, I felt for many months that we still shared the same body. We woke simultaneously throughout the night; we burped together; we yawned in unison; we felt thirst and hunger together; and our moods were nearly identical. “Who started it this time?”, I thought. Was I in his shadow or was he in mine? Could one of us be covering the other? The answer to these questions was never simple. We didn’t take turns or just react to one another. We were still inextricably linked as mutual entities, ineffably and inexplicably still occupying one body.
